REO: Remote Egg Oiling

Nesting season shouldn't stop your operations.

Drone precision. Proven protection.

Egg addling, coating bird eggs in oil to prevent hatching, is a well-established, non-lethal method of targeted avian population management. OrniLogic helped pioneer Remote Egg Oiling (REO), bringing this proven technique into the drone age to reach energized transmission towers, distribution pole transformers, crane booms, and cliff nests that ground crews simply cannot access.

One treatment. A whole season of protection.

Our patented Remote Fluid Application System (RFAS) has been in the field since 2019, with a proven record of safety and efficacy protecting client assets, reducing operational disruption, and keeping birds out of environments where they cannot safely raise their young.

Why Egg Oiling works:

How it works:

Engineered for access. Built for safety.

A single treatment with less than 50mL of oil blocks oxygen exchange through the eggshell, preventing hatching at any point during the three-week incubation period. The RFAS can be pole-mounted for ground-accessible nests or attached to our Skydio X-10 drone for energized infrastructure and other hard-to-reach locations.

The drone platform weighs just over 5 lbs with the oil system attached, spans 22 inches, and completes most oiling flights in 1 to 5 minutes. The RFAS runs on an independent power source and is controlled via a separate radio signal, so it never interferes with drone flight systems.

Missions completed:

5,000+

since 2016, zero reportable incidents

Typical Flight Time:

1-5 mins

per nest

Oiled Egg Hatch Rate:

near 0%

across 2025 field deployments (658 eggs treated)
